Rock and Roll!

Raegan rolled over on her own for the first time today! She has been partly rolling to the side for a while ( i think she would be a side sleeper if she didn't still like her swaddler) and over the last week I have been helping to get her started rolling and she finishes the rest. But this morning she was laying on her playmat on her back and decided she wanted to roll over on her own, so she did! After she figured it out, she rolled over a couple more times and I caught it on video. She is growing so fast! We are very proud of our little determined girl!

"I have a voice!"

Raegan has officially realized that she has a voice. She has been "talking" for a while know but last week she really learned how to use her voice. She has been screeching, squealing, and shouting with her newly discovered voice. She loves to talk to herself in the mirror and she also enjoys talking back to anyone who talks to her. She has been serving as dinner time entertainment for Josh and I. We sit her in her high chair and she talks to us and smiles at us while we are eating. She has also started playing in her exersaucer. I thought at first she would just sit in it but as soon as we put her in it she started playing with all of the toys ( and screeching with glee during her playtime). It is so fun watching her grow, change and explore but we already feel like she is growing too fast! But we are enjoying every moment with her and trying to capture as many moments in pictures and on video. Below is a short video of Raegan talking to herself in the mirror of her play gym.

Tickle, Tickle...

Well I have determined that Raegan is now ticklish. She really giggles when you touch under her chin! I was using a washcloth one day to clean under her chin and she started giggling like crazy! She giggles at other times now too but I am not really sure what she is laughing at. But it sure is cute! It is so neat to see her personality really starting to come out. She particularly enjoys mornings. She continues to greet me every morning with a big smile and now she is very talkative and playful for the first 2 hours she is up ( and then she needs a nap!). I think when she does really start talking she is going to have a lot to say because she sure is talkative with baby words right now! She is able to hold herself up in her highchair so I guess she is telling me she is ready to eat! I am looking forward to making her good, healthy baby food in a couple of months (or less) when she starts eating solid food! I am enjoying my time with Raegan every day!

Happy Birthday Kona!

Today was our dog Kona's 2nd birthday. Yes, she is a dog but i think she honestly thinks she is a human and she acts sometimes more like a 2 year old child than a 2 year old dog. But I love her. She is a really great dog ( with a lot of energy) and she helped me through some really tough times over the past year. I know she is just a dog but in some small ways she helped to fullfill some of my needs to mother and nurture before Raegan was born. I have always loved dogs and even though Josh was reluctant to get a dog, we finally did and I am glad that we got Kona. She has been a great " big sister" to Raegan, lately giving Raegan "kisses" on her little feet. And Raegan loves to watch Kona so I am sure they will have a lot of fun together when Raegan gets bigger! Today I made Kona doggie cookies and sang her happy birthday. I know it's kind of goofy but it was fun ( for me at least!). So happy birthday Kona!

Mother's Day

Today is mother's day and this year I am a mother. Everyone has been wishing me a Happy Mother's Day and I have gotten cards and phone calls. And I appreciate everyone doing that for me. I know everyone is happy for me that I am a mom now and that I get to celebrate my first mother's day this year. I told Josh I didn't want him to do anything special for me but he did make me a cute card and bought me Starbucks this morning ( and gave me the movie "Juno" last night, but not really for Mother's Day). This day is a happy day for me but in reality it is no different from any other day since February 2nd when a precious baby girl was placed in my arms. I appreciate everyone thinking of me today but in some ways today is actually a bittersweet day for me. I remember last Mother's Day and it was a very difficult day for me. Josh and I had just a few weeks before been given our final diagnosis telling us that we would not be able to have children without very specialized treatment, treatment that went too far into the realm of "playing God" that we didn't feel like it was something we could do. On Mother's Day I was in church and was doing ok until the children went up to the front to sing a song and I lost it. I actually had to leave the service because I couldn't stop crying. I have never had to leave church. But on that day it was just too much. I guess at that time in my life I was grieving a loss and was left feeling empty, wondering if I would ever become a mom. I thought to myself, "how many more Mother's Days am I going to have to sit through before I become a mom. And this year, I guess one would think that I would be really excited about mother's day since this year I had a 3 month old baby in my arms, but it was still difficult. It is difficult to remember what that day felt like for me last year and to think that this year there are other's experiencing that same deep pain. To think of those who have lost mothers, who have lost children, who can't have children, those who still aren't married but long to be, those who are waiting to adopt a child, those who have given their children up for adoption. I am not the type of person that can know other people are experiencing pain and not feel it too. I don't think God allows us to go through painful experiences just to forget about them when they are over. He wants us to comfort others when they are going through the same or similar situations. As painful as our experience was with infertilty, I am so thankful for it. I am thankful first and foremost because God has revealed that it was all a part of His glorious plan for our lives and without our infertility we would not have our precious and beautiful daughter, who I can't imagine life without. Another reason why I am thankful is because it opened my eyes to other people's pain and it has also allowed me to see what a tremendous blessing being a mom is. I am so thankful because I will never take being a mother for granted, I will never take the blessing of children for granted. Today I am the one who is truly blessed. And every day when I go into my daughter's room and see her smiling at me, that is a greater gift than I ever could have asked for or imagined.

Growing up before our very eyes!

Raegan is officially 3 months old ( well as of last friday... i am a little behind in my blog posting!). She continues to grow and change in so many ways. We don't know what her exact stats are since she doesn't go back to the doctor until 4 months but according to our "home made" estimations she is roughly 25 inches long and 14.5 lbs. At two months she was 24 inches long and 13lbs 11 oz and in case you don't remember her birth stats she was 19 1/2 inches long and 7 lbs 8 oz! So she is definitely growing up ( and filling out) quickly! I am definitely getting my exercise with her between lifting her up, carrying her around and taking her for nice long walks on these nice spring days! Soon she will have me in better shape than i have ever been in ( i'll just call her my little personal trainer!). We are enjoying every moment with her and love seeing her grow and change and explore the world around her!

Raegan has also already been to two birthday parties in her time here. In April cousin Tyler celebrated his 2nd birthday and had a "Fire Fighter" party at the firehouse. Raegan was not too impressed with the firetrucks but Tyler was!

Tyler wasn't as impressed with his firetruck cake as he was with the real firetruck!

And last weekend we went to a party for my cousin Mike who turned 50. Raegan enjoyed meeting more of her family there and we all enjoyed celebrating with Mike.

Happy Birthday Mike!

" No cake for me please, I'll just stick to my bottle"

This coming weekend is Kona's " 2nd birthday" so we might just have another party!
