"Camping"

It was a nice fall weekend last weekend so on Saturday we decided to give "camping" a try. As I mentioned in the previous post Raegan has a Franklin book that they have a sleepover and they have fire in the backyard with hot dogs and marshmallows and she has been asking if we could go "camping". On Saturday as soon as I mentioned my idea to Raegan she decided that yes we were going to go camping. So we went out and bought hot dogs and marshmallows and when the kids woke up from their naps Josh put the tent up in the backyard and lit the fire pit. Raegan was convinced she was going to sleep out there so she packed up her animals and took them outside into the tent. My parents called and we invited them over for hot dogs. They thought we were a bit crazy but they came anyway. The girls enjoyed running around in the crisp autumn weather and playing in the tent. We cooked hot dogs over the fire and then had smores. And then when we were done eating the kids had had enough and came inside. It was a lot of fun but it reinforced to me why I didn't go camping for real this year and that would be because we have an adventurous one year old. I don't know how people camp with 1 year old but it made me nervous to have her around the fire and I don't think we could have gotten either of them to sleep outside. It was a fun family memory in our new house though and maybe next year we can try real camping!

A Yard of Our Own

We are really enjoying our new home. I miss my friends from Virginia, a lot but I don't really miss our house or lack of yard. We truly feel at home here already. We are still in the process of getting settled but it didn't take long for our new house to feel like our home. It is clear that God wanted us here and even though we are not as settled as we would like to be we are very comfortable here. One thing that we are really enjoying is our yard. The girls love going outside and running around. Karis especially is our little outdoor girl. If we say the word "outside" she starts motioning us to the door and trying to get us to open it. She even brings her shoes to me sometimes which I know means " take me outside mom!". They both love running around and playing. It really is nice to be able to have a safe place for them to run around and play. One night Josh and Raegan went outside to try to get Kona to run around ( we are still trying to get Kona used to being outside) and Karis already had her PJ's on but she started banging on the door because she wanted to go outside. She was so convincing that I put shoes over her PJ's and took her outside. We have had a lot of fun. Raegan wants to go "camping" outside because in one of her Franklin books he goes camping in his yard and has hotdogs and marshmelows over the fire. Raegan has it all planned out so we'll see if we get brave enough to try that out!
